This is traditionally a neighbourhood of fishermen, but the historical evolution of the city has transformed Barceloneta into the neighbourhood of beaches.

Since 1992 Barcelona has opened up to the sea, knocking down old buildings and creating new terraces and restaurants and a new promenade where luxury yachts moor. The beaches were cleaned and arranged, converting Barcelona into a typical maritime city.

A cable car goes from this neighbourhood to Montjuïc Castle, offering spectacular views of the city.

Walking across this neighbourhood or following the beach round we reach the breakwater with viewing restaurants at each end, the delight of all lovers of seafood.
